Tanalised Redwood Piling – Ludham – February 2022
Our client approached us looking for a contractor to install timber piling along the boundary ditch of their property where their bank had been worn down and degraded.
Project details;
To install 87 metres of 47×200 Tanalised Redwood piling, bevelled capping and posts, and to dredge ponds and use material raised as backfill.
Resolution;
Due to low water levels in the ditch and a lack of access to mobilise floating plant, the decision was taken to pile as much as possible from the land. This posed several challenges as access to the majority of the property was through a narrow gateway and across a manicured lawn. We utilised a combination of softwood lightweight bog mats and ply boards to pretty much eradicate any mess. Starting from the furthest point and working our way out, we once again made good use of the bog mats when we were no longer able to pile with our mini excavator. Joining them together to form an extremely shallow draft raft we were able to complete the rest of the piing using our handheld air hammer, the added benefit of which is the reduced risk of contamination to the water course by using an air hammer instead of a hydraulic one. Once the piling had been successfully installed and capped, we installed 3.0 metre long strengthening posts. These were used in place of tie rods so as to not disturb the customers garden.
With a flexible, pragmatic and conscientious approach we were able to overcome all the challenges of this project, leaving the customers piling complete and lawns beautifully unharmed.
