Tanalised Redwood Piling and Soft Slipway | Hoveton, Norfolk
Our customer contacted us looking for something potentially a little different. Although the majority of the project would be a like-for-like replacement of their existing tanalised piling and decking, they also wanted to include a more ecologically friendly slipway.
Project details
To remove and dispose of 6m’s of piling and replace 18.8m’s of piling with Tanalsied Redwood.
To replace 8.3m’s of boardwalk with Non slip grip impregnated decking and remove slipway and replace by re-grading and installing coir pallets.
Resolution
A refreshingly straightforward project, we started by mobilising our floating pontoon and excavator. Stripping out the failed piling, capping and decking and installing new 47×200 Tanalised Redwood. This timber should have a longer life expectancy than the old tanalised whitewood piling thanks to a superior grain structure. Then using our excavator and selector grab, we extracted a small section of piling allowing for easier access and egress for the customers boat. Once the majority of piling had taken place, we moved our excavator onto the land to commence work on the slipway. Installing timber piling below normal water level height to create the end of the slip, we then shaped the surrounding soil to create a kind of swale which would form the natural slipway. Then we installed coir pallets, a small amount of top soil and grass seed to stabilise the ground.
